The return of sporting event organised by LCCS, strictly in line with the COVID-19 protocol, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium

Athletes began training again in non-contact sports after months of inactivity as a result of COVID-19 pandemic during the week at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere and Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba.

Players took part in the badminton, table tennis, tennis as well as the track and field events in line with the conditions given by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 pandemic for sporting activities resumption.

According to a statement by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), the protocol for sporting activities were not violated, as the state government acted responsibly by setting up the Implementation and Monitoring Committee, following the announcement by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare.

The statement added that the committee’s major assignment was to ensure that sporting activities, which fell under the non contact sports approved by the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, adhered to COVID-19 sporting activities’ protocols.

Speaking at one of the centres at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, hosting the badminton players, the Director General, LSSC, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, said that the state was fully prepared and ready to comply with the Federal Government’s directives.

“We at the Lagos State Sports Commission, like the soldiers, are ready,” he said, adding that the state had already lined up various sporting events later this year or next year in anticipation of the easing out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
